Chapter 01 — Landscapes
The collection
American landscape photography spans every climate on the continent — red-rock deserts, Pacific and Atlantic coastlines, old-growth forests and high alpine valleys. This chapter gathers the landscape photographs currently held in the us.photo collection. Three of them have a fully verified location and photographer; the remainder are shown with their location marked as unconfirmed rather than guessed.
Authentic Photography
Genuine on-location photographs. Where an exact location could not be confirmed, the caption says so rather than guessing.

Editorial
Every photograph here is a genuine, on-location image. Where the exact place a photograph was taken can be confirmed from its source, the caption names it — along with the photographer. Where it cannot, we say so plainly instead of attaching a plausible-sounding place name.
The verified frames span the country: the sandstone buttes of Monument Valley on the Arizona–Utah border, the golden surf of Oahu's North Shore in Hawaii, and a hammock-slung afternoon above an alpine lake in Colorado's Mount Zirkel Wilderness.
